Rebirth of Platonic Theology.jpg

Marsilio Ficino was a pivotal figure in the revival of Plato during the Renaissance – not only as a philosopher but also as a source of theological speculation. Ficino revivified an ancient tradition of "Platonic theology," providing the impetus for a line of thought that would continue long beyond his lifetime. This volume, edited by James Hankins and Fabrizio Meroi, collects essays on the topic by leaders in the fields of Renaissance philosophy, Platonism, and Ficino studies, including Brian B. Copenhaver, Sebastiano Gentile, Stephen Gersh, Thomas Leinkauf, and Cesare Vasoli.

The proceedings of a conference held at The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies (Villa I Tatti) and the Istituto Nazionale di Studi sul Rinascimento (Florence, 26–27 Aprl 2007). The volume is dedicated to the great Ficino scholar and dear friend of James Hankins, Michael J. B. Allen († 2023).
